At the Second Annual

FOCUS on FIBER

 At the Madison County Fair

July 8 – 11, 2010

As an exhibitor or vender

We will be welcoming back exhibitors with alpacas, sheep, cashmere goats, angora rabbits, and llamas, along with vendors offering fleece, pelts, handspun yarn, hand-knit and hand-woven scarves, gloves, ornaments, shawls, sweaters, and much more.   Please contact us if you can bring fiber animals and/or goods made with natural fibers or products related to fiber crafts.  Click here for entry form.

As A Sponsor

A Focus on Fiber program to be distributed at the fair offers an opportunity for anyone producing fiber products or fiber processing to reach hundreds - perhaps thousands - of fiber aficionados.  Please contact us if you are interested in purchasing an advertisement in our program or in sponsoring an event.  Sponsors may also be listed on our website.

As a visitor

Meet and learn about fiber animals, try your hand at felting or spinning, watch experts demonstrate fiber crafts.   Find the perfect yarn or kit for your next project, and do some early holiday shopping for fine hand-made articles.  Plans are taking shape for a “Sheep to Shawl” demonstration from 10:00 to 4:00 on Sunday, during which  spinners, carders, and weavers will show how a sheep’s wool is transformed into a beautiful shawl.  Spinners, felters, and weavers will be on hand throughout the three-day event to demonstrate their crafts. Why not invite your spinning or knitting club to spend an afternoon with us?   The fiber fair will be open from 10:00 to 6:00, Friday - Sunday.

As a speaker, demonstrator, or workshop leader

We are pleased to announce that talented leaders have been engaged for four workshops thus far.  Mindy Laymon will lead a workshop on needle felting for beginners and Denise Tarbox from Newark Valley will offer a wet felting class.  Nancy Morey, who has been engaged as an instructor for the NE Handspinners Guild, will lead workshops on spinning silk and blending fibers.

Students attending the wet felting workshop will have the option of making a hat or a scarf, using hand dyed wool, silk, alpaca, and silk gauze.  No felting experience is required, and fiber and materials will be provided.  Students should bring two old bath towels.  The fee for the all-day workshop (and your new hat or scarf!) is $50, plus a $20 materials fee for a hat or a $10 materials fee for a scarf.   To register for the class, please call Denise Tarbox  at (607) 642-5568.  Shown are some possible projects...
